    Birding 101

    Students will learn the skills used by ornithologists for bird identification in a classroom setting. These skills will be designed to be helpful in all settings, but especially in our community. The course also includes field trips to prime birding locations, to view and study birds. Led by local wildlife photographer, Betty Boehm.
  • Culinary Cook Off

    Gather your friends and/or family and come enjoy a fun night of culinary competition in our updated space! If you love to cook, are creative with ingredients and enjoy friendly competition, this night is for you. We will be hosting three nights of competition, one for kids only, one for families and one for adults only. Once you sign up, you will be given an ingredient list to use according to the following Culinary Cook Off Rules: Culinary Cook-Off Rules- Age Divisions: Youth-ages 8-18- May 6, 2024 Family- ages 8-adult- May 7, 2024 Adult- Age 18+- May 8, 2024 Only team entries will be accepted and can consist of a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of five (5) members. Contest Rules: After you sign up, you will be emailed a list of ingredients to be used in the contest as outlined below. On competition night, those ingredients on the list will be provided for all teams. Teams are required to use a defined number of ingredients off this list based on the age division entered. See the requirements below: Youth– 2 ingredients Family – 3 ingredients Adults– 5 ingredients Teams are encouraged to be creative when developing their recipe and work together to come up with a plan of action for the actual contest. Practicing ahead of time is a good idea! You will only have one (1) hour! Prior to the contest Email recipes to Robin Schamber at rschamber@sub1.org or to sboces@sub1.org On the day of the contest: Each team needs to come prepared by having all of the ingredients necessary for their recipe that are NOT on the ingredient list. Items on the ingredient list will be provided. Each team will have one (1) hour to prepare their recipe and serve it to the judges. When time expires, all team members will be required to stop what they are doing. Each team will need to make sure they prepare enough food for two judges and audience members to taste a small sample. This is how the People’s Choice Award will be determined. Team members are encouraged to work together Guests may watch the competition but cannot interact with the contestants. Each team will be responsible for thoroughly cleaning their kitchen station Judging: The judges’ evaluation will be based on three components: Recipe Originality Use of the ingredients on the list Complexity of recipe picked in regards to age division Cooking Use of a variety of methods Cleanliness & Food Safety Teamwork Knife, Cooking, Measuring Skills Taste & Flavor of Food Presentation to the Judges; including plating AWARDS Overall and People’s Choice awards will be given in each age category
  • Driver's Education 2024

    Driver’s Education Procedures for Students Earn your license and become a safe, secure driver with the BOCES Driver’s Education course. Our goal is to offer a program that develops a conscientious, efficient, safe driver who understands the skills and behaviors required for safely operating a vehicle. Procedures: At the age of 14 years and 6 months and a Sublette County Resident you may register and pay the class fee of $150.00 for Driver’s Education at BOCES through this link: Driver's Ed. You may also call the BOCES office for assistance at 367-6873. ** Students who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch at SCSD #1 can receive a scholarship for the cost of the BOCES fee. You will receive a confirmation email including the link to the online class portion which is an additional $59.99. On your own time, complete the online classroom instruction through DriversEd.com. Obtain your learner’s permit from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (You must be 15 to obtain a learners permit or go through the hardship process). WYDOT requires documentation for obtaining the permit: proof of identity (birth certificate, passport, etc.), 2 examples of proof of residence, and your social security card. Prior to driving with an instructor, you must present Sublette BOCES with physical copies of your 1) Certificate of completion from driversed.com and 2) WYDOT learner’s permit. Sign this document as well as the Parent Permissions and return to the BOCES office. After steps 1-4 above have been completed, Mr. Hartwig or Mr. Flint, Sublette BOCES driving instructors, will call you to schedule the required six (6) hours of driving time. The instructor will work to find driving hours to fit within your schedule, to the extent possible. Driving Expectations: You must have your learner’s permit in your possession at all times. No flip-flops or barefeet while driving. You must be alert and observant at all times while driving. You shall not report to your driving session with alcohol or with any detectable amount of controlled substances in your system. A detectable amount refers to the standards generally used in workplace drug and alcohol testing. No distractions while driving: i.e cell phone, music, watch phone, digital devices. Pay attention at all times, no sleeping. No food or sugary beverages in the vehicle. You must not violate any of the conditions of Wyoming Statute 31-7-108: The student’s license or nonresident operating privilege is currently under suspension or revocation in Wyoming or any other state; The student is a habitual user of alcohol or any controlled substance to a degree rendering him/her incapable of safely driving a motor vehicle; The student has previously been adjudged by a court of law to be mentally incompetent and who has not at the time of application been restored to competency by the methods provided by law; The student has failed to successfully pass an examination required by Wyoming law; When the instructor has good cause to believe that the person by reason of physical or mental disability would not be able to safely operate a motor vehicle upon the highways; The student is in violation of the immigration laws of the United States; When the instructor has received a written statement from a licensed treating physician or optometrist stating the student is not capable of safely operating a motor vehicle. ** If, after the first driving session or during any successive driving session, for any reason the instructor feels that continuing the course would place you, the instructor, or the general public at risk, you will be removed from the program. ** Students who do not successfully meet the standards required by the course will not receive a completion certificate. If these students still wish to obtain a Wyoming Driver’s License, they will be required to practice with a parent or legal guardian to obtain the necessary hours and skills to complete the program. After successful completion of all the requirements listed above, students will then be presented with their Driver’s Education certificate.

    Students will complete on-line learning portion, as well as complete six hours of successful driving time in order to receive a certificate of completion.
  • Evening Pottery

    This class introduces students to creating ceramic forms utilizing the potters wheel. Various techniques, will be demonstrated including glazing and firing to acheive individual projects.
  • Intermediate Quickbooks: Making the most of Quickbooks

    This class will offer you insight into how Quick Books looks and feels, we will walk through the basic set- up for accounting for your business activity, which will provide both operational and financial information. We will introduce helpful tips and tricks for setting up your business on Quick Books as well as operational tips and tricks to use managing your business day to day. Time for individual Q&A will be set aside with the instructor for some 1:1 conversation at the end of class.Computers will be provided using Quickbooks 2023 software.
  • Introduction to Spinning Yarn

    Learn the basics of fiber preparation and spinning fiber. 1st learn to spin using a drop spindle ( you will be able to take this home to practice between classes). 2nd students will be able to work with five different spinning wheels, including e-spinners, during the workshop. Finally, students will learn to use and have access to blending tools to make their own unique fiber blends. Wheels will be provided, however, if students wish to bring their own (working) spinning wheels to class please let BOCES know. Various tools will be available for students to use for their projects. Please pack a sack lunch. Allergy alert - this workshop will be using animal fibers, primarily wool.

    K-5 After School Wednesday's Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

    Activities will focus around fun interactive Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through various games, skits, crafts, outdoor exercises and movement. We will be outside weather permitting for all activities. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Students Arriving at BOCES Bus: Children will be riding the Duck bus. Sublette BOCES will not be sending a staff member to ride the bus each day. Bus Check in: Bus drop off location will be at the north end of the Sublette BOCES building. Student Check Out: Parent Pick-up: Parents will not enter the classroom when picking up their student(s). Parents will enter the BOCES building using the BOCES main entrance (signs will be in place) and be recognized by a BOCES staff member in the hallway. At that point an instructor will be notified to release that student to be checked out.   • Mother's Day Vase & Flowers (Multi-Media Wyrkshop) Class

    Join us to make a Mother’s Day gift with Hayley Ruland! We will be making vases using the glowforge laser printer and a flower bouquet made of stained glass. Students will learn the basics of the glowforge and stained glass including glass cutting, foiling and soldering. You will also have the opportunity to personalize the vase with a small message to your mom! All materials will be provided.

    This is a wonderful way to connect with your daughter and import words of love and wisdom in their crucial years of adolescence.     In this class we will cover all the steps required to make sourdough bread at home. From feeding & maintaining a sourdough starter, making levain for dough, plus all the concepts & techniques in between - mixing and folding, judging fermentation, shaping and baking, etc… You will go home with plenty of tips and tricks to hone in your sourdough skills.
