Get your camera off automatic, take control of your pictures, and learn to shoot in manual mode. This class is for photographers using manually adjustable cameras such as DSLRs, and SLRs (hello film!). This class is aimed at any level of photographer who has not yet mastered the exposure triangle and manual mode. We will take a four week dive into shutter speed, ISO, and aperture settings, otherwise known as the “exposure triangle”. Requirements: please bring your manually adjustable camera, all lenses, and the user manual to class. Access to a computer and internet to download photos and submit assignments will be necessary.
Gretchen Yost took up photography at the age of 9 when her 4th grade social studies teacher converted his supply closet to a darkroom and taught the class how to make shoebox pinhole cameras. Watching images appear from blank paper, under the red glow of a darkroom, was like magic to her and she’s never looked back. This Pinedale resident is now a professional photographer, capturing everything from families to weddings to birth to landscapes and architecture. She approaches photography with the eye of an artist, the ethics of a photojournalist, and the heart of a mother. Gretchen’s work has won numerous international awards and been featured in exhibitions both locally and internationally. She sees beauty in everyday life and can’t wait to teach locals some of the skills she’s learned after 36 years of photography. To see some of her work, visit www.gretchenyost.com or on Instagram @gretchen_yost and @gretchen_yost_photographer.
